Litter

On a recent walk I discovered something puzzling. Water bottles full of yellow liquid. After seeing more than a few strewn about in the underbrush I could not resist carefully removing the lid from one of them to discover what the yellow liquid might be. To my highly trained nose the odor proved most similar to that of urine. Now let us all take a journey of discovery shall we. One not for the faint of heart. Now is your opportunity to turn back otherwise let us proceed by presenting the facts of the case and then extrapolate to reach a viable theory as to the cause of this most offensive litter scattered in the underbrush between the railroad tracks and the road.

First let us consider the location. This is an out of the way place in a small industrial zone near a public school next to the railroad tracks.. The kind of place individuals who live lives outside of civil society might use to hide away or pass unnoticed.

Let's take a closer look at the items themselves. 16oz Water bottles with urine in them and 40oz Heineken cans as well. There are at least six of each of these but most likely many more than the cursory inspection uncovered. Having gathered what was found in a five minute search into a pile we ponder the origin of the evidence. These containers undoubtedly came to be by the road side through the activities of human beings. Do we believe it is the activity of more than one or just a single individual? My vote is that a solitary human has deposited these items in this area over a few months time. Considering this theory let us now begin the process of understanding the mind of a person whose life has resulted in these items by the roadside.

First and second can we agree that the person is a male consumer of alcohol and that his brand loyalty lies with the alcohol producer identifying itself Heineken. If you have any doubts as to gender I will explain myself as to my conclusion when we examine the next item of evidence but there is another interesting fact to consider when inspecting the cans. These cans are the modern pop tab type and on each of the cans the tab was pried only enough to make the opening partially detach along the seam suggesting that the individual imbibing the beverage is a sipper and further suggesting that the cans were all consumed by a single individual based on the modus operandi of only partially opening each can. If the individual is a sipper this would suggest someone who is savoring the liquid contents of the can which in turn might lead us to believe that the behavior is ritualistic and compulsive.

I am a believer that humanity has been created with a primary purpose to worship. The focus of that worship is the Creator and when a human rejects the Creator, the worship, which cannot be denied, is instead redirected into an addictive behavior and that behavior is almost always self destructive.

Operating on this belief as our standard let us continue with this theory assuming that a man with an addiction to alcohol who's behavior has become anti social is living on fringes of society and discarding the objects of his worship in the underbrush between the railroad tracks and the road near a school in this industrial area of town.

Now to delve more deeply into the motivations resulting in the production of the most puzzling of the objects collected in our evidence. That being the water bottles containing the golden liquid discovered to be urine. This is the most compelling factor in surmising the individual is male. We would have to agree that to make a deposit of urine into the opening of an empty water bottle and not just one but upwards of a dozen would most certainly be the work of an individual with a male liquid waste removal appendage.

Now as to the reasons behind taking the time and making the effort to deposit the waste liquid into the empty water bottle I make the claim that this also points to the compultion, albeit misguided, to worship that is placed within all of creation by the Creator. It may be that the individual in his reverence for the liquid that is his sole focus in life demands that he collects and preserves it because in his fallen mental state it would be a sin to simply allow it to be spilled on the ground to later evaporate leaving no trace of having ever existed.

Although these are only theories if true they bring to light the tragic realities of a life enslaved by addiction. A life dedicated to the consumption of alcohol and the subsequent collection and preservation of the byproduct of this endeavor. What must it be like to have this ritual as a life's work in a society that would judge the activity as nothing more than nuisance littering?

May all who have gone astray someday see the light not only for their own sake but for the sake of a community without trash strewn about along the roadside.

Happy Place

Little Piece of Paradise!

It does not look like much and it really is not much but that makes it all the sweeter. The weather this week and come to think of it for the last two weeks has been glorious. I was chilly in the shade so I got to wrap up in a wool blanket while reading my latest book of interest.

I am enjoying this biography of my favorite writer authored by Michael Phillips. The life and times of George Macdonald are quite interesting to me and the letters he and his wife exchanged that are included in the text are an inspiration.

Macdonald writes to his wife to be October 24, 1848

" Is love a beautiful thing, dearest? You and I love: but who created love? Let us ask him to purify our love and make it stronger and more real and more self-denying. I want to love you for ever so that, though there is not marrying ........ in heaven, we may see each other there as the best beloved. Oh Louisa, is it not true that our life is a growing unto life, and our death is a being born - our true birth? If there is anything beautiful in this our dreamy life shall in not shine forth in glory in the bright waking consciousness of heaven? And in our life together, my dear dear Louisa, if it please God thea we should pass any part of our life together here, shall it not still shine when the cloud in over my head? I may see the light shining from your face, and when darkness is around you, you may see the light on mine, and thus we shall take courage. But we can only expect to have this light within us and on our faces - we can only expect to be a blessing to each other - by doing that which is right......."

Nice Week!

Pork Chop with Japanese Sweet Potato

It has been a beautiful week thus far! Delicious food chilly temperatures fire in the fireplace!

Hot Chocolate with Buns

There are two new little people on the planet whom I met this week. They both got a loving squeeze from one of the universe's top baby inspectors (that would be my mother for those of you not familiar).

Coach Gone Coastal

Coach Gone Coastal
Many times when I am out in the backyard sawing and banging around I hear what sounds like an echo not fifty feet to the East.Turn out their is an artist in residence.

Coach Gone Coastal

My neighbor former high school coach is pursuing his passion for art and in a way that fascinates. He repurposes all kinds of materials and transforms them into whimsical, colorful and desirable works of art.

Coach Gone Coastal

The materials he uses can be just as fascinating as the subjects he chooses and his enthusiasm for his craft is contagious. He is just getting started and what a start it is!

Coach Gone Coastal

His subjects all have a quirky story behind them. Either personal or steeped in local history a winning combination in my book.

Coach Gone Coastal

Thank you Coach Ray for sharing your art much success to you!

TECO Energy Osprey Excluder

TECO Nest Excluder Install

Tampa Electric paid a visit to the neighborhood today. For the last two years we have a two attempts by a pair of pairs of Ospreys to construct a nest atop a power pole. This was very entertaining but they were never able to get enough material to make their nest a success. I do not know how TECO became involved but it was interesting to watch them in action.

Ospreys who built nests at the tops of power poles run the risk of having their work and possibly their offspring go up in flames so Tampa Electric’s arrival was timely. I am disappointed with the solution they chose but I understand the necessity of keeping the lines clear. Below is a video illustrating what can happen when rain saturates a nest that is constructed in a manner that brings it into contact with multiple wires.

Here is the approach they took in our neighborhood.

They did a fine job just wish they would have put the effort into erecting a nesting platform.

It will be interesting to see how long these two stick around. Below are a couple image depicting what I hoped they would do.

Ordering Verizon Fios

Internet access and cellular service are just too expensive. I know this is America and I am all for free enterprise and market forces but we have become a pseudo socialist democracy. The fault lies with each of us for paying more than we should and for letting ourselves be treated as though we exist for producers rather than the producer existing for the consumer.

I have been dreading switching internet service providers but Bright House just keeps raising the monthly price and for speeds and performance that are dismal. Many time their services just cut out completely.

My dealings with verizon in the past have shown me that they are deceptive and greedy but they are the only viable alternative. Below is the audio of the ordering process.

It has been a couple weeks and I sit here typing the fiber optic cable is still laying on the grass unburied.

The line had to be spliced which I enjoyed watching. The Tech was an expert.

Our phone service did go dead on the 18th a few days after internet was turned on. I do believe they shut it down in an attempt to get me to switch the phone to digital fiber signal but I will never be able to prove it. Years ago they shut off my DSL without my permission and despite many phone calls and much wasted time refused to reestablish the service. They have very little regard for what the customer desires and will do everything in there power to force you into their mold. It is demoralizing to have to do business with them.

Update:

Doing verizon's job for them

It was January 14, 2015 when the 4 techs came out and ran new fiber optic cable and hooked up Fios internet service to the house. It is now February 4, 2015 and I just finished burying the over 60' cable after getting tired of having it running all over the lawn.

Hullabaloo Modifications

Hullabaloo Upgrade

I have been “improving” the canoe this last couple of weeks.

I have made many trips to Fiberglass Coatings Inc. in St. Petersburg Florida and spent twice the budget on foam and fiberglass.

Hullabaloo Upgrade

I started by making a form in which to pour the Urethane foam.

Hullabaloo Upgrade

I capped it off with a wooded transom.

Started mixing, pouring, cutting, rasping and sanding and at long last am ready for part two the fiberglassing. Stay tuned for certain disaster!
