First Fishing of 2016

First Fishing of the New Year!

First Fishing of the New Year!

We witnessed something new to us on this trip.

First Fishing of the New Year!

Well over 20 Osprey hunting over the flats in a large group. They were in the air for hours diving one after the other. We would see them pluck a fish from the water time after time.

It is the new year but God is not bound by time. Today is the day of your salvation. You are forgiven in Jesus name and He awaits your return to Him. A willingness to give your life back to the one who has given you life is all you need. It not by works but by Grace through Faith! Ephesians 2:8-9

Brofishing September 8, 2015

Brofishing Sept. 8, 2015

Another incredible day on the water! Last year around this time of the year we began the best Red Drum catching month of our measly little lives! This year looks like it is going to be another spectacular season for fishing these beauties!

We were next to the only ones on the water in comparison to most days. I suppose Labor day had take is full measure of leisure lust from the the conformists.

Brofishing Sept. 8, 2015

We each were able to catch a respectable fish.

Of course the ones that go away would have been record breakers!

The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The LORD is over many waters.

Bro-Fishing Once Again!

Bro-Fishing

Another great day on the water in this brief life.

Psalm 39:4-7New Living Translation (NLT)

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—
    how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
    My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.”
We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth,
not knowing who will spend it.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.

Sheepshead Extravaganza !

Sheepshead Galor

My Brother and I set out last Monday on a fishing trip that proved to be very successful! I have been desiring to scrap fish and modified some old broken fishing rods and a shovel for that purpose the week before. The following is our experience.

Let me first describe what we call scrap fishing. My father taught us this technique many years ago. To scrap fish, you simply scrap marine invertebrates and other various crustaceans from the surface of whatever substrate they are attached to. Scraping this surface when located over water will cause the delectable morsels to drift down the water column to waiting fish of varied species. We then hook Oyster chunks collected from the same surface we are scraping and allow them to drift down where the fish attempt to consume them without being hooked. More often than not they accomplish the removal of the bait without getting hooked.

My brother pulled up the first fish and we were happy to know they were down there. I think this is a Spot Tail Pin Fish (Diplodus holbrooki).

Sheepshead Galor

On this occasion we learned quickly that our hooks were not strong enough which ramped up the excitement level a bunch. Now we know there are quality fish down there. We re-rigged our line with size 4 Mustad hooks!

After that we had some reel fun!

Most of the fish we hooked were Sheepshead (Archosargus probatocephalus).

Clear Winter Waters

Diving the clear Winter water

My friend Scott recently made mention of the clarity of the water in Tampa Bay and we did something about it. I met he and his wife at an agreed upon location for some chilly skin diving!

Diving the clear Winter water

It was clear and it was chilly and we had an invigorating time flailing around above and below the surface.

There is a lot to see under the surface!

We had a great time and we will go out again soon Lord willing!

Cracked Fuel Line, Bait Stealers and Shattered Glass!

Fishing November 5

Wednesday on the water was great but the fish were not biting, at least the species we were trying to hook. The rod holders worked very well and the lights are placed well. It took ten minutes for us to have out first challenging incident and they kept coming all day long.

Fishing November 5

The weather was beautiful, man made climate change is a protection racket being perpetrated by liberal progressives, so we enjoyed the environment guilt free.

Most of the time was spent providing free meals little bait stealers.

This is what we found when we returned to the GoBox. A fellow human had shattered the passenger rear window and stolen $10 in cash leaving over $300 in damage which will be well under the $500 insurance deductible. Another day in the life on the planet of the apes.

Big Jack Crevalle (Caranx hippos)!

Fishing with my Brother

My brother and I set out early Sunday morning to go after the Red Drum I caught the morning prior. The flats were being patrolled by large schools of large Jack Crevalle! It was great fishing! Below is all the action via youtube.

Fiddler Crab Warriors

Mud Walk Aug. 2, 2011

Had a great mud walk today with some veteran walkers. There was an extra helping of wild life about the place and that was a real treat.

Mud Walk Aug. 2, 2011

There was an abundance of one of my favorite creations. Fiddler crabs were out in force. Like armies of Shogun Warriors they were patrolling their vast mud flat holdings. We strode among them like giants in the land and they fled before us in terror. Just do not corner them or they will strike their fiercest pose.

Mud Walk Aug. 2, 2011

A fiddler crab, sometimes known as a calling crab, may be any of approximately 100 species of semi-terrestrial marine crabs which make up the genus Uca.[1] As members of the family Ocypodidae, fiddler crabs are most closely related to the ghost crabs of the genus Ocypode. This entire group is composed of small crabs – the largest being slightly over two inches across. Fiddler crabs are found along sea beaches and brackish inter-tidal mud flats, lagoons and swamps.

I have to laugh every time at how drunk with power I feel as they scatter at the mere sight of me on the horizon. If they only knew I meant them no harm I could sit down in the sand and have them gather around in massive numbers.
