I always wince when I see the small clump of tangled feathers in the street. Another owl struck down sometime in the night. I have seen several flat owls and I am convinced that being struck by a vehicle is the #1 cause of death in the owl world. I almost clipped one myself one night when it swooped down just in front of the Wego right into the beam of my headlights.
This particular owl is not far from the house and I am afraid it is one of the four we know and love. There are many more owls than we know flying around South Tampa and I hope they continue to thrive!
