SD800is Post-Mortem

My Faithful Canon SD800is unceremoniously died about three weeks ago. I picked it up pressed the button and nothing. No noise or lights no lens extending out from the body. Nothing.

Here is an image of the rig I had from a previous post. This camera served me very well from 130’ below the surface of the water in the Gulf of Mexico to the jungles of Ecuador it did a great job of bringing back images and videos of my adventures!

Here is the post mortem which left me with no indication of why it failed but with the utmost respect for the marvelous engineering necessary to construct one of these little wonders.

I also broke open one of the old batteries.

I plan on replacing it with an sd960.

The only real improvement will be higher definition video.

  1. Wow, how long did it take you to pull that apart? Is that the only camera you have? Your pictures are always fantastic and I thought you had a Digital SLR? When do you get the new camera?

  2. I have a D200 I use for most stills althought many of the stills on the blog were recorded with my sd800. The point and shoot is so good for little videos that I should have my replacement by friday. An sd960. The important thing to remember is not to buy a point and shoot based on the zoom by just the opposite. Any point and shoot I like has a wide angle of at least 28mm.

  3. The only camera I have right now is a Nikon D40 SLR with 18-55mm and 55-200mm VR lenses. I am hoping to save up for another Nikon soon, I am shopping around for the ones that give off the best Bokeh, oooooh how I'm hooked on Bokeh!! Here are some great samples of Bokeh:

  4. The quickest way to get boken is to go to B&Hphoto and get you a 50mm 1.4 lense. About $300 or the 50mm with the 1.8 about $200. I have the 1.8 and it is a bright, sharp fast lense! http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=nikkor+50mm&N=0&InitialSearch=yes
