Let me set the stage for last nights excitement. It was approximately 9pm when I went out back to see if the clump of bees was still in the avocado tree. Otis my brother’s dog was using the opportunity to stretch his scrawny little legs when he goes berserk by the back gate. My friends you are going to be amazed.
Otis had treed a raccoon! Now this by itself is a whole lot of excitement in our little back yard. Here is where it gets even better. This was a big momma raccoon and I quickly discovered baby raccoons scattered all over the place during the confusion. I was not sure how many but I knew there were at least two. I later learned that there were four!
One was frozen in fear on the back fence and I was able to get close enough to touch the fuzzy little fellow. Otis finally got to close to the momma who was not about to let anything cause harm to her scrappy little babies. He began to yelp like he had lost a leg when in truth he had a few scratches and maybe a puncture wound or two on his left front leg which he still refuses to walk on properly.
This little one fell out of the tree right in front of me and tried the whole stand tall and puff up routine to create overwhelming terror in the eyes of all who witness. It was adorable.
Momma takes inventory of all her fuzzy little ones.
The whole episode ends happy with the momma locating and gathering her feisty little rascals and heading into the night in the light of a full moon!
I love the "Look how big I am when I puff up" picture. I bet you were petrified of that huge raccoon. LOL
