Spring Fling 2007

Spring Fling was great this year and has been in previous years. I really like to wander around in the midst of so many friends who are Jesus people. I live much of my life vicariously through so many of them. The blessings God has given them are awe inspiring and they graciously share them.

Every year the Spring Fling gives the opportunity church to gather in a larger group and it is fun to see all the interaction. You see folks catching up with each other and families enjoying a beautiful spring afternoon. I always wait for those serendipitous little meeting with people that are, unbeknownst to them, virtual celebrities in Mr. Billy's little world.

It is amazing how the mind works. If you have a consciousness anything like mine than if you contemplate it you would have to acknowledge that there is a continual ranking of associations that takes place as you move through time. If you were to make a list of important individuals it would be quite a tangled and convoluted document. People are important to us for so many reasons most of them selfish. The rankings change with every new day based on individuals availability, current attitude, and so many other factors. It is amusing.

There is a sober side to all of the mental gymnastics. When we begin to think of others less as belongings and more as not belongings at all but completely out of our hands we begin to live with others in truth. It is an uneasy thing at first to accept. It is certainly a better thing to be chosen not of necessity but of desire. The follower of Jesus must always come back to the conclusion that he/she has been provided with those in their sphere to live in a manner that exhibits the character of Christ. Jesus is the ultimate cure for consumption. He gives us the freedom to love without expectation. He brings us into the closest fellowship there is to be had in this life.

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:14-16

Time marches on and I am so blessed.

This is something that has bothered me about my own attitude toward people for quite a while.

You have a knack for tangibly communicating ideas which might otherwise just continue to float around in the back of my own mind as an incoherent haze for a long long time...
