Let's All Go To Heaven!

Today I was working around the home of a family from my church. The dad is adding a two room addition to the garage apartment behind their home. This particular family is one of a growing number of families attending our church who have adopted.

A few years past they showed up to the church preschool with a little Romanian gypsy girl. They call her Leah. Leah was only two or so years old and showed all the sign of having been severely deprived of meaningful human contact. She had no communications skills and was prone to incoherent outbursts. One of the most telling signs of her orphanage experience manifested itself in the form of rocking side to side and staring blankly into space. She was really damaged at this point in her little life.

Fast forward because as they say time flies and picture this. I am standing at the corner of the family’s garage with a measuring stick in my hand as the dad determines level through a scope. My attention turns to a dark skinned little girl at the base of the down spout just opposite me. She is digging through the drive way gravel. She finds two smooth stones and stands. She looks at me and I compliment her on her find. This is where it gets interesting because the next words out of her mouth are just amazing to me. Not because I have not heard them before but because of the context and the simplicity in which they were uttered.

“Mr. Billy, you are going to heaven.” I know I am going to heaven but my interest was at its peak.“ I agreed and said we would all be together and we would all be changed.”
As I look into her little crossed eyes I ask “Will I be going to heaven soon or will I live a long time?”
The little gypsy girl responds with as profound an answer as you will ever hear, “I don’t know.”

Thank you Lord Jesus for bringing Leah to us and for the amazing change the love of her new family has made in her life.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

  3. Out of the mouths of babes. This is why we must remember to love Jesus like a child would. They're so pure. Thanks for sharing that story.
