Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good Birds?
Let me cut right to the end at beginning. There are no good birds and therefore the bad things that happen are well deserved. The real mystery is why anything good would happen in the life and times of bad birds.
If we start with the absolute truth that God created everything and that His word the Bible is the only reliable guide to life liberty and the pursuit of contentment, we can answer this questioned quite satisfactorily. If you are however convinced that life has no meaning and is a cosmic quirk, you may satisfy yourself with the notion that there are no answers, or maybe there are, or at least if there are, they like life are just plain quirky and the police are a dreadful nuisance.
The Bible makes it plain in Romans 3:23 that good people simply do not exist. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; In fact even when a people do good stuff the bible teaches in Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
This of course all started with the first couple of people who were given paradise to live in. They knew nothing of evil or death. There were no natural disasters only sweetness and light. They did have one caution in their life. Something bad would happen if they ate the fruit of a tree. The name of the tree was the tree of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. They ate and believe it or not they gained some new knowledge and you better believe that knowledge was evil.
Wow what a difference evil makes, when evil is around bad things happen. All this brings us back to the real question. Why do good things happen to bad birds? Birds are neither bad nor good this whole cosmos thing is really about people. He is delighted to make good things happen for all the people he has created. All good things are gifts from God. The best gift is a new place to live where the knowledge of evil and its effects simple do not exist. Romans 6:21-23 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
God certainly does not mind curious birds asking questions and seeking to understand the unfathomable, but rest assured, He has given us everything we need to know for this time and place. The birds have to suffer because they live on a planet populated by people. This is what we need to know when confronted with Bad things
Ephesians 2:4-10 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
