Every Six Minutes

Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Prediction System (COMPS).That is more than just a light pole it's one of those mad scientists diabolical information collection stations. A wind speed meter ( a little plane fuselage minus the wings with a twirly little propeller at the front), an optical tide gauge recording water level, on some stations temperature sensors for water and air, and a solar panel constantly trickle charging the battery during daylight hours.

This is what is found inside the drab grey box housing the electronics and transmitter that records and reports the information.

Ah, here we see a scientist in his natural habitat. On this occasion Mark E. Luther, Ph.D. can be observed attempting to trouble shoot one of his devices. Note his use of both rudimentary and sophisticate tools to accomplish his goal.

Thank you for explaining the system to us Mr. Luther. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
