They wanted to believe their lives have meaning. They wanted their relationships to be more than chemical reactions. They wanted to believe their was true love, so the great grandchildren of the ape turned their backs on evolution and invented God.
They strove to live by their God's morality and to give their lives for one another. They made up stories of how they were more than a chemical consciousness and would go on forever in spirit after their body ceased to function. The truly educated ones, the ones with real intelligence, were not fooled by this delusion.
They continued to live in the freedom of a life without meaning. At liberty, at least in their own enlightened minds to live a guiltless existence secure in the knowledge that there was no right or wrong, no absolute truth and no final judgment.
The only evil thing for them was faith in God. The only thing to be hated the inventors of God. In the end just as something had come from nothing. Something returned to nothing and the hairless apes were no more.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
(Psa 53:1-3)
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. (1Jn 4:16-21)
