Beauty In Design

This is one of those manufactured items that does exactly what it is designed to do and does it very well. I had to laugh with delight when I pressed this scoop into the container of Breyers chocolate chip ice cream last night. This zyliss scoop does its job next to flawlessly!

The sharp edges prevent the ice-cream scoop from slipping, making perfectly formed scoops possible, even from deep-frozen ice cream. The handle fits comfortably into the hand, force is transferred without loss and the handle is insulated.

Not long ago in the men’s Sunday school class I attend here one of my fellow pontificators mentioned his uneasiness with associating the word creation with the human race and our endeavors. It stuck me all at once as a valuable insight. When we consider the definition of the word create we can rule out the word to describe what humans do. To create is to make or cause to be or to become. To create is to bring into existence. We simply are not capable of this activity and any way.

God has brought everything into existence including you and me. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
What then do we do? We being created in the image of our Father imitate Him. We cannot say anything more than we reassemble the materials He provides to make our lives better or in many cases worse. We use our God given imaginations to dream up all kinds of gizmos and gadgets. We use our God given hearts and minds to enjoy the beauty of design. We can take pleasure in the ability and desire to “create”. We desire to make things because we were designed to be like our Father in heaven. We can never legitimately take any credit for creating anything because this is not something we have the power to accomplish. Keep on reassembling and molding those raw materials folks and give God the glory!

Ecclesiastes 1:8-10 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
