Emotion

You must be willing to be a traitor to your emotions! You must see yourself as separate from that component of your being which is motivated by rapidly changing circumstances and fleeting moments of excitement. To understand the course being set by your feelings and passions and to have the temerity to, against the leadings of your fickle heart, turn on those very same feelings and render them powerless to cause action is freedom to truly live and love.
The same emotions that would lead you to make rash and harmful decisions are, in the end, the source of torment for the results of those very same decisions.

Proverbs 4
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

1 Thessoloninas 5
16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 1 8In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Try this a time or two with the knowledge that repairs are more easily made to surface damage than they are to breaches of the core. Simply hold your position for a longer time than your emotions dictate. Be a traitor to emotions who do not hold allegiance to your long term good and remain faithful to the truth God instilled within you from the beginning. You might just discover that it is your own emotions that are more often the real traitor!

  2. hmmm. easier to do with Christ definitely, in fact downright tough without Him, but also easier with age and life experience i think.
