McCamping 3
There are those for whom the primitive existence is a welcome change from the modern rush about world. I am happy to say I know a few such families and they graciously let me tag along.
This weekend's camping trip to Fort Desoto Park in the Pinellas County Florida is the third in the last two years. It has become a bi-yearly tradition. Fort Desoto Park has a very nice facility with an abundance of camping sites and great restrooms complete with private showers and coin operated laundry machines.
This years gathering was smaller than past gatherings which creates a whole new dynamic. The benefits of breaking from the routine are many. Experience has taught that getting together under carefree conditions is an excellent way to get to know friends and family in a deeper more meaningful way.
On these occasions time passes something like this. Arrival is followed by the orderly or not so orderly unpacking of camping equipment and supplies. The assembly of the tents is next on the agenda and when the grounds are sufficiently prepared a fire is started. Food is readied for flame and everyone begins to wander about the park in search for nothing in particular.
As evening draws nigh and the food begins to cook the masses begin to centrally locate and wait for an opportunity to fill a paper plate with good things to eat. After we have all satisfied our stomachs the chairs are circled up around the open fire and the laughter and fellowship begins in full and continues long into the night.
This very tent was the site of an adventure. Inside a Mommy, Daddy, Three brothers, and a sister spent a wild night of tossing and turning.
What a great time we had.
