Some might call it a curse and some a blessing but we all call it a flood. It has been several years since our last significant flooding but today the streets were again covered with run off. Many years ago my younger brother and I would look to the skies and dream of the annual floods. My beloved parents dread for these events was no secret but being the little animals we were we did not share the same trepidation. We were not concerned about our living conditions in the slightest. We would have been quite happy bedding down in a mud hole. Spending our days wading down the local streets dodging the floating masses of fire ants in our search for water deep enough to swim in. Skim boarding on the thin layer of water collecting on the fields of grass at the school and the church. Sad but true it rarely flood in these parts any more. I say the heck with the property values, let’s block up the drainage ditches and get down to the business of living on the edge (of our own personal Venice that is)!
