It is both curious and wonderful to rediscover a book from those most influential years know as childhood. I recently found a personal favorite of mine at the library. As I reread Henry the Castaway, by Mark Taylor, illustrations by Graham Booth, long faded memories slowly weave their way back from the depths. For me the illustrations speak louder than the words. I begin to have the suspicion that this simple story has actually shaped my present day pursuits. My fascination for maps, my delight in exploring new places, and maybe even my desire to canoe hither and yon just because, are all prominent elements of this children’s book. I cannot say how many times my father read me this book as a child but it was more than a few. Do you remember any of your favorites?
Maybe it is time for you to take a trip back to yourself and experience the joy and comfort that comes with rediscovering a vivid part of your distant past.
Everything that enters the mind remains. Thoughts, images, and words are all recorded and though they may grow dim they can resurface at the best and worst times.
Guard you heart and mind for they influence everything say and do.Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Faded Memories Renewed

THE BOOK OF MY PAST WAS "THE GIVING TREE." I WONDER IF THE WRITER WAS A CHRISTIAN, BECAUSE THE TREE GAVE EVERYTHING TO THE BOY. YOU KNOW PEOPLE COULD LEARN A LOT FROM CHILDRENS BOOKS. IF WE WERE ALL LIKE THE GIVING TREE, THERE WON'T BE PEOPLE WHO NEED ANYTHING. THIS IS HOW I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED. THAT VERSE IN PHILIPIANS 4:8 IS MY PERSONAL BEST. IT REMINDS ME TO WALK AS HE WALKED. ~Blessed Be~
