Dressers, Bird Houses, High Winds

This morning I decided to turn a couple of discarded Chest of drawers found by the road side into birds houses. I was not sure how far I would get in the process before rain would start. I was able to finish two small houses. Then the neighborhood almost blew away.

Chest of Drawer Bird Houses

The folks that used to sell prescription drugs down the street recently relocated and I was able to salvage these dressers from their garbage. Yes I am not to proud to dig in the neighborhood drug dealers garbage mostly because I am such a humble guy. This furniture is becoming a rarity in today’s shallow society. They were actually made of solid wood and not particle board!

Here are the two houses and I have wood for quite a few more!

Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Hen

Fancy in the rain

It is raining here in Tampa Florida and this brings joy to my heart!

The hens are wet but they are not mad. Maybe a little perturbed but not mad.

I like to eat

01

This morning after a delightful time at church we had Eggs Benedict or as I say in a very haughty voice Eggs Benedictine. It was yummy. The eggs were from our own hens and it was the best Eggs Benedictine I have ever consumed!

I then had a Ham Sandwich for dinner

I used greens from the garden to dress it. Now I just need to get my tomatoes growing!

Who Is On Your Mind?

Sometimes it is a good idea to stop for a moment and think about who you think about. That little voice that you talk to yourself with reveals those who you allow to influence you. Remember always to keep God and his word as your first influencer but then give some thought to those who surround you in your mind. If you seeking God the folks who you think about are those who you are to serve and minister to.

In the Garden Adam walked with God. God talked with Adam and Adam was aware of only good things. After a period of time passed with God and Adam in the Garden God made a woman out of Adams body. God said that it was not good for Adam to be alone.

Who is on your mind? Who do you think about without even realizing it. Who have you forgotten? Stop and see them all with your minds eye.

New Brake Pads and Shoes

2005 Scion XB Brake pads and shoes

Our 2005 Toyota Scion XB turned over 67,000 miles and finally needed brake pads and shoes. I jacked the box up and pulled the tires. all in all I spent $160.00 including rotor and drum turning. I am happy to say I got it all back together with not left over parts.

The pads from the front discs were no thicker that the blade of a kitchen knife. The shoes still had some life in them but I swapped them out anyway. If these are the originals they lasted over five years so I can hope the new equipment will get us through to 2020. What will the world be like then if the Lord does not come back?

Haws V115 Watering Can

Haws V115 Watering can

I recently purchased this long reach watering can and the balance and functionality are very good. I have no experience with other watering cans for comparison but this model will serve my purposes very well. It was a bit expensive but I think it will have a long and successful carrier watering my garden plants.

Haws V115 Watering can

The shower or rose attachment produces a very gentle soaking shower that will not crush smaller sprouts.

Haws V115 Watering can

The markings on the side aid in filling it to the desired level. 1 liter up to 5 liters (1.3 gal.)

The handles allow good position of the hand for comfortable balance when watering. All in all a very good little watering can.

Orange Juice

Orange Juicing

How many gallons of juice will an average citrus tree produce in a single growing season. It has to be a lot. I can only imagine what a joy it was for those who came before us generations ago when the citrus trees were rife with ripening fruit. I can just see a pioneer family living in quaint little cabin plucking an orange from a nearby orange tree after a morning of laboring on the land. Recently I was encouraged to pick some citrus from a neighbor’s tree. I did and I juiced my little harvest. The juice was delicious. We have so many mass produced beverages that are so empty of real nourishment that it was almost shocking to pick my own fruit to juice.

The result!

Thank you Rick Scott

rickscott

Thank you for doing what I voted for you to do. You are the first leader in a long time that has stood your ground and continued to do what you said you would do. You put confidence back in our Representative Republic form of government. Keep on cutting the fat and thwarting the efforts of those who seek to take more and more from those who produce to enslave those who are willing to take without contributing anything to our community. You are a bright ray of light in an otherwise gloomy realm of self-centered political leaders. May a taxpayer funded high speed rail never be found on Florida soil. I am looking forward to the day when we do not have to hear about it for a while.

Alan Folts and CRKT Knife Collaboration

I recently went on a search for a replacement blade for a friend whose knife I lost diving. I found the Columbia Knife and Tool + Alan Folts minimalist fixed blade neck knife. They come in three configurations all with Kydex sheaths. The Bowie , Tanto, and Wharncliffe blade. They are tiny little wonders for under $25.

During my search I discovered a custom knife maker that really appealed to me. Blind Horse Knives has a number of great videos that give you a real feel for what it takes to make custom knives! I find their practical line of knives and their sales approach to be very attractive. Maybe some day I will be reviewing one of their lovely Frontier Valley knives if I ever find myself with enough disposable income to allow me to purchase one.
